Gondwana Family Lodge

Nestled in the heart of the arid Little Karoo, Gondwana Family Lodge offers an unforgettable wildlife experience within the vast Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. This expansive reserve, one of South Africa's largest privately owned, stretches across 54,000 hectares of breathtaking mountains and plains. Here, you'll discover a rich tapestry of indigenous flora and fauna, ancient rock formations, and rare San rock art dating back over 3,500 years. Sanbona is a sanctuary for diverse wildlife, boasting over 650 plant species and 200 bird species, alongside a remarkable array of mammals and reptiles. Notably, the reserve is home to nearly the world's only free-roaming, self-sustaining White Lions, a truly unique sighting. The northern section of the reserve is where you'll find our comfortable hospitality lodges, now home to introduced predators and big game, promising thrilling encounters. Explore the fascinating landmarks like the Bellair Dam, a hand-built structure from 1922, which once served as a vital irrigation source. While the traditional Big 5 are present, the sheer scale of Sanbona encourages exploration, leading to the rewarding discovery of its many rarities.
