Ab Hotel Nara

A Different Way to Do Nara

Most travellers visit Nara as a day trip from Kyoto or Osaka — train in for the morning, see the great Buddha at Todaiji, feed the deer in the park, walk through Naramachi, train back. It works, and it's how Nara is most often experienced.

But the city has a quieter rhythm that day-trippers never see. The temples at first light, before the tour groups arrive. The deer in the park at dusk, when the air cools and most visitors have gone. The lantern-lit grounds of Kasuga Taisha in the early evening. Naramachi's narrow lanes after the souvenir shops have closed. AB Hotel Nara is set up for exactly this — a comfortable, well-priced, properly Japanese business hotel that lets you stay one or two nights and experience Nara at its quieter hours.

It's not a luxury ryokan or a heritage hotel. It's a clean, efficient, central place to sleep, with a complimentary breakfast and a location that puts the temples and the deer park within easy reach. For most Nara travellers, that's exactly the right product.
